The NEC DSX-80 and DSX-160 telephone systems have 3 1/8″ minijacks located on the CPU card. The 2 minijacks closest to the outside are the audio inputs. The first minijack is audio in 1, the second is audio in 2 and the third is a page output. To connect music-on-hold you will need a mono audio cable with a 1/8” minijack on one end and a connector that matches your music player on the other end.
By default the NEC DSX is programmed to play music from audio source 1. This can be changed on a line by line basis in program 3103-05. If you want a true message on hold system, one that will play advertisements or specials for your company we recommend the OHP 8000. It comes with all the required cables to connect to the NEC DSX telephone system and includes some nice software if you’re the creative type and would like to make your own messages.
