If you are using the Intramail with your NEC DSX telephone system (22B display tel phone) then your general delivery mailbox is usually set up as mailbox 600 (verify with your system administrator). This is the mailbox that callers are usually sent to if they press 0 or make no choice from the auto attendant greeting and the call is not answered by your operator.

The receptionist phone usually has an operator message button. If this is the case then simply press the operator message button, press the soft key under greet, the soft key under greet 1 and follow the instructions to record a new greeting.

If you have no operator message button you can still change the greeting by following these instructions:

  1. Press Intercom 700
  2. Dial 600 and enter the passcode (if prompted)
  3. Press 4 for greetings
  4. Press 1 for greeting 1
  5. Press 5 to listen to the current message.  If this is the correct mailbox press 7 to record a new greeting, press # when done
  6. Hang up

A typical greeting would be “You have reached our operator mailbox, please leave your name, number and a brief message and we will return your call as soon as possible.”

To take full advantage of the NEC Intramail you will need to record a personal greeting, record your mailbox name and change your mailbox password.

Step 1: Recording your personal greeting

Press the V-Mail button, press the softkey under Greet and choose the greeting you wish to record – 1, 2 or 3. We recommend using greeting 1 as your every-day greeting “Hi I’m on the phone or away from my desk, please leave a message” and greeting 2 or 3 as vacation or special greetings. That way you don’t have to keep recording your greeting over and over again.

Step 2: Recording your mailbox name

If you are using a dial by name directory you will want to record a mailbox name. Press the V-Mail button then dial 76 . Press the softkey under REC and say your name.

Step 3: Changing your security code

Press the V-Mail button and dial 67 follow the instructions to enter a new security code.

These instructions will work for the NEC DSX 34B Display Telephone and the NEC DSX 34B Super Display phone as well as the NEC DSX 22B Display phone.

The NEC 22B Display Telelphone has a built in handset plug in the bottom of the phone eliminating the need for a headset amplifier.

Turn the 22B Display Telephone over and locate the jack on the bottom of the phone labeled headset.  Simply plug the headset cord directly into the headset jack located on the bottom of the telephone.  The cords for your handset and headset should be run through the two channels to keep the cords from tangling.

Now you will need to put the NEC telephone into headset mode. Do this by pressing #47 while the handset is on the hook. You then press 9 to activate or 6 if you want to turn headset mode off.

To use the headset you will leave your handset on the hook. You can answer calls by pressing the flashing line keys or the flashing call coverage keys. Use the speaker key to disconnect.
