The NEC DSX Intramail has 16 special mailboxes that can be used for 4 different functions. These mailboxes are numbered 001 through 016 (or 801 – 816 depending on your version) and they can be programmed to perform the following functions:
- Instruction Mailbox: An instruction mailbox is used to give callers…. instructions! Normally these mailboxes are used for your day and night greeting where you are giving callers options to reach different people or departments in your company. The options that callers can dial are programmed in the dial action tables.
- Announcement Mailbox: The announcement mailbox is used to give your callers information but not the ability to dial anything. The most common use for the announcement mailbox is a message the gives directions to your office, office hours or fax number. When a caller listens to the whole message he or she is transferred back to the previous instruction mailbox.
- Subscriber Mailbox: This mailbox will play a greeting and then let the caller leave a message.
- Directory Mailbox: This will allow the caller to dial the first few digits of an employees name then transfer the call to that employee. This can be by first or last name but not both in the same mailbox. The employee name that is searched is based on the name programmed on the phone.
